The Project Details

University of Melbourne

Lovell Chen

Stokes Rousseau was engaged to undertake conservation works on the heritage-listed Chemistry Building at The University of Melbourne.

Designed in 1938 in the modern Gothic style, the building is a significant part of the University’s interwar expansion phase during the 1920s and 1930s.

The restoration scope included extensive façade and structural conservation, such as paint stripping, render and concrete repairs, brick and crack remediation, repointing, and restoration of original timber sash windows. Additional works involved rooftop waterproofing membrane installation and thorough façade cleaning, all completed with careful attention to the building’s architectural integrity and heritage value.
