Stokes Rousseau was engaged to deliver major conservation and refurbishment works at the historic Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory — one of Melbourne’s most beloved tourist attractions.
A striking example of Spanish Mission style architecture, the Conservatory has captivated visitors with its seasonal floral displays for over 80 years.
The scope of works addressed both heritage preservation and long-standing functionality issues. Key components included the conservation of original metal trusses, replacement of the timber roof structure, installation of 400 square metres of roof glazing, façade and render repairs, and stormwater upgrades. The project also included painting and the integration of modern building systems such as mechanical, electrical, security, and audiovisual services — ensuring the Conservatory remains safe, operational, and enchanting for years to come.
