Beech Creek

Trestle Bridge

The Project Details

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

Stokes Rousseau was engaged by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to reconstruct the historic Beech Creek Trestle Bridge, nestled deep within the Rubicon Forest.

Originally built nearly a century ago, rebuilt in the 1960s, and later damaged by the devastating 2009 bushfires, the bridge formed part of a complex 10-kilometre mountain tram track network that once linked hydroelectric power stations and sawmills across the region.

This remote network was the only mode of transport for workers and their families living in the forest. Stokes Rousseau was tasked with faithfully rebuilding the bridge to its original condition, ensuring structural integrity and historical accuracy. The revitalised trestle now serves as a key part of a bushwalking trail, allowing visitors to experience a unique piece of Victoria’s industrial and environmental heritage.
